Stanley Williams and Sapna Bedi FitzGerald are the C&I Group’s Law Society Council representatives.  Stanley and Sapna attend Council meetings and express their views on current topics concerning the in-house profession and over the years they have been lobbying The Law Society on a variety of issues affecting in-house lawyers, including:

• That in-house solicitors retain a fair percentage of Council seats upon any reorganisation of the Council

• The Law Society resources are allocated on a fair basis or alternatively, the Law Society makes application to introduce variable practicing certificate fees based on risk and benefits received

The C&I Group has, for many years, been campaigning to reduce the cost of practicing certificates for in-house lawyers.  As you will have seen from recent press articles this has now come to fruition with in-house lawyers now paying a substantially reduced amount for their practicing certificates.

We have also been in dialogue with the SRA on the The New Code of Conduct regarding our issues on how this affects in-house lawyers.  Updates on this topic are available to subscribed members and can be found on the members page of the website.

The C&I Group is your representative body and should you wish Stanley or Sapna to raise any particular issues on your behalf, then please send an email to info@cigroup.org.uk

These are interesting times for the profession and the C&I Group will continue to lobby the Law Society on issues affecting its members.
